Video-review of Structural health monitoring system (SHM) basic configuration
This video contains a review of SHM system basic configuration.
Basic configuration of SHM system is a comprehensive compact system intended for structural health monitoring and prompt evaluation of building’s structural parameters. The system includes a basic set of digital transducers, which are to be mounted on structural elements of the controlled structure. Depending on the particular task to be solved, the transducers can be represented by accelerometers, strain gauge transducers, tiltmeters, or seismic sensors. The next component is the interface converter. It is placed inside of a leak-proof casing and used for data transmission to the operator of the system. For processing of the accumulated data and visual representation of the results obtained it is necessary to use a PC or a laptop with ZETLAB software installed.
In this particular system configuration, we have a short-period seismometer ZET 7156 which is used for monitoring of natural oscillations and damping ratio of various buildings and structures.
Operating principle of this system is similar to that of the distributed structural health monitoring system, which is as follows:
1) Selection of the most suitable location for installation of the system
2) Installation of the equipment
3) Configuration of system parameters
The programs from the scope of ZETLAB Software package are used for the controlled parameters representation in user-friendly form. It allows to understand, whether repair activities are required. Basic configuration of Structural health monitoring system is perfectly suitable for structural control of small-scale and standard constructions. For unique structures, large-scale industrial facilities, and in order to enhance accuracy and redundancy of monitoring results, it is recommended to use more control points for evaluation of structure’s bearing capacity.
