Designation and operating principles

of the digital soil pressure transducers ZET 7010 SP

Digital soil pressure transducer ZET7010 SP is intended for measurement of the soil overpressure in the foundation of various structures and its distribution over the foundation area. These transducers can also be used for the control of large tanks filling with viscous materials and plastic media.

Digital soil pressure transducer ZET7010 SP is intended for use within the framework of Structural Health Monitoring Systems (SHM) for the purpose of ground pressure measurement around the structure’s foundation for the control of subsidence process.

Structural health monitoring

Digital soil pressure transducer ZET 7010 SP consists of measurement unit and sensing element based on the strain-gauge circuit.

The transducer is installed in the area of measurements performance (in embankments, earth dams, under bridge supports and foundation slabs). The pressure applied to the casing of the transducer is transmitted to the sensing element, which converts the pressure into electrical signal. The measurement module conducts digital processing of the signal received from the interface converter and sends the digital data in digital format by RS-485 interface with the use of Modbus protocol.

Digital soil pressure transducers ZET 7010 SP have an integrated cable. The connection to the measurement line is established via the communication terminal box (which is included into the standard delivery scope of the system).

The transducers are installed in the area of measurements performance, while the interface modules used for data communication are placed inside of electrical cabinets.

Electrical cabinet with ZETLAB digital modules has compact dimensions. Another advantage of ZETSENSOR modules is their easy installation and dismounting, power supply and signal transmission indication (which considerably simplifies the in-place diagnostics of the system).

Measurement circuit layout

of the digital soil pressure transducers ZET 7010 SP

The use of digital transducers is especially convenient in the case of distributed measurement networks deployment. The main difference from the traditional centralized measurement networks is that there is no need to use the wye-type connection, which also allows to reduce the overall length of the measurement circuits. Since the data is transmitted in digital format, it becomes possible to reduce the requirements for the data communication channel and to use inexpensive cables.

In order to connect the measurement network to ZETLAB and ZETVIEW systems, there is used ZET7070 interface converter ZET 7070 (USB ↔ RS-485), or ZET 7076 (Ethernet ↔ RS-485). ZET 7070 allows to connect up to 4 digital transducers (if the integrated power supply module of ZET7070 is used). In the case of the external power supply, it is possible to connect up to 60 transducers.

ZETLAB Software package enables parallel connection of up to 1024 transducers to a single PC. The measurement networks can also be connected to any system with Modbus protocol via RS-485 interface.
