Operating principle

of Interface converter ZET 7076

Previously it was widely thought that it is enough to receive sensor readings and to have remote control over them. But gradually there evolved a need for remote control, i.e. people need to receive sensors readings and to control their performance via Internet (for instance, on a portable device). Such possibility simplifies quite a lot of tasks since one can control performance of a system located at the other end of the city or even a country.

Interface converter Ethernet↔RS-485 ZET 7076 is designed for the connection of measuring networks based on digital sensors with RS-485 interface to PC via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Wi-Fi and Ethernet capacity enable prompt command execution and large data volumes transmission.

The sensors can be mounted on the measured object or inside of electrical cabinet together with interface modules providing data transfer.

ZETLAB electrical cabinet has compact dimensions if compared to available analogs. ZETSENSOR modules advantages are as follows: they are easy to install and to dismount, they have power indication and data transfer option, which considerably simplifies on-site system diagnostics.

Data acquisition system based on the implementation of our sensors is rather simple. Digital sensors transmitting data via RS-485 interface are connected to the interface converter ZET 7076 which, in its turn, is connected to a router or directly to a PC via Ethernet cable. Then interface converter ZET 7076 collects data from digital sensors via RS-485 and transmits it to PC by means of Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.

For the protection of measuring networks based on ZETSENSOR RS-485 digital sensors, DTB devices are used.

ZETLAB package provides drivers for ZET 7076 modules. ZETLAB data server automatically detects device presence in RS-485 line, reads measurement channel name, measured value, upper and lower range of acceptable parameter values and constantly reads measurement channel data forming a constant synchronized channel in ZETLAB environment.

ZETLAB data server scans available addresses of the line. In the case, if a new device is found a new channel is dynamically connected to the system.  In the case, if a new ZET 7076 device is found, ZETLAB data server also connects new channels.  Thus, the line maintenance can be performed in parallel with other channels operation, i.e. the system enables “on the go” elements change.

Operational features

of Interface converter ZET 7076

Digital sensors ZET 70xx forward response to «Modbus RTU» in 2 ms after command receipt, however «MOXA» type converter in 2-wire mode for some reason fails to switch over to sensors response receipt.

The problem is solved by switching the converter into a 4-wired RS-485 mode.

When doing so one has to connect output 1 (TxD-) to the output 4 (DATA-/RxD-) at the connector DB9 and to connect output 2 (TxD+) to the output 3 (DATA+/TxD-) as is shown in the figure.

In the case of such connection the converter receives responses from ZET 70XX sensors as well as its own transmitted commands – it is due to this reason that it is necessary to activate program overriding of “echo” parameter on the PC.

Note!

It should be noted that in the case of MOXA MGate MB3180 device (converter Modbus TCP Modbus RTU with an integrated Modbus support) such failures are not observed. However, it the case of MOXA NE-4110A and MOXA NPort IA-5250 converters, such failures may occur.
